AAA SHELBY COUNTY MOTOR COACH TOUR
New York City: Broadway and More!
September is a wonder time to experience the exciting sights and sounds of New York City on a AAA Shelby County escorted motor coach tour.
The trip begins with a visit
to the 9/11 Memorial and
Museum, as well as the One
World Observatory at One
World Trade Center. The 9/11
Memorial Plaza represents
remembrance and renewal. Its
eight-acre park comprises a
grove of nearly 400 white oak
trees and the largest manmade
waterfalls in the United States.
At the 9/11 Memorial Museum,
learn about the historic
implications of the 9/11 tragedy through state-of-the- art multimedia exhibits, archives and monumental artifacts. Atop the One World Observatory, on
the 100th floor of One World Trade Center, take in stunning panoramic views of New York City.
Later in the day, tour the National Geographic Encounter Ocean Odyssey in Times Square. This
immersive entertainment experience transports audiences on a spectacular underwater journey across the Pacific Ocean – without getting wet! On
this odyssey, visitors come face- to-face with an amazing world of undersea creatures, including great white sharks, humpback whales, sea lions, and Humboldt squids.
The following day takes us on a tour of the iconic Radio City Music Hall and Metropolitan Museum of Art,
the largest art museum in the United States. The museum’s permanent collection contains more than two million works, divided among 17 curatorial departments.
Still more trip highlights follow: a Broadway show, dinner at the famous Playwright Restaurant in Times Square, a walking tour of Central Park, and a visit to the iconic Empire State Building.
This promises to be a dazzling four-day trip. For more information and to make reservations, contact AAA Shelby County at 937-492-3167.
AAA SHELBY COUNTY MOTOR COACH TOUR
On the Roads of Michigan to
Mackinac Island
AAA Shelby County invites you to join us on a tour of Michigan’s Mackinac Island and other lovely regions of the state.
Our first stop will take us to Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester. This Tudor revival-style mansion was built between 1926 and 1929
by Matilda Dodge Wilson,
the widow of auto pioneer
John Francis Dodge, and her
second husband, lumber
broker Alfred Wilson. This
110-room, 88,000-square-
foot mansion is ranked sixth
on the list of the Largest
Historic Homes in United
States, but is the third largest
historic house museum. In
1957, Alfred and Matilda
Dodge Wilson donated all of their estate to Michigan State University.
On this evening, lodging will be at the beautiful Thunder Bay Resort, which sprawls across 400 acres in the heart of Northeast Michigan. Enjoy a wine-
8
paired gourmet dinner at the resort, as well as the unusual experience
of elk viewing via horse-drawn carriage!
The following day we head for Indian River, where
we will see The
Cross In The Woods,
a local landmark since 1954. The shrine’s 55-foot-high crucifix is made of a single redwood tree; its bronze sculpture of Christ was created by Marshall M. Fredericks and added to the cross in 1959. The shrine grounds also feature several lovely statues and the world’s largest Nun Doll Museum.
Then it’s on to St. Ignace to take a ferry ride to picturesque Mackinac
Island for a unique, regional experience. Mackinac Island provides a slower pace and simple indulgences that are often forgotten during the rush of today’s busy lifestyles. Visitors especially enjoy Mackinac Island State Park, which comprises more than 80
percent of the area. The park affords perfect respite for nature lovers. One of the highlights of the time spent on Mackinac is a sightseeing tour of the island via horse-drawn carriage. The afternoon is free to roam as you please!
On day four of the tour, we take the ferry ride back to St. Ignace and depart for Frankenmuth. Lunch this day will be at the famous Zehnder’s Restaurant. There will also be time for shopping at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth’s “Little Bavaria.” This amazing store – the size of one-and-a-half football fields – contains 50,000 trims and gifts.
