ERS REGULATIONS
The fundamental purpose of AAA Emergency Road Service is to assist any member whose eligible vehicle experiences trouble of a mechanical nature that prevents the vehicle from safely proceeding under its own power.
It is an emergency service only — not a substitute for proper maintenance and repairs. There are specific provisions about this service. Please read this guide carefully.
Your request for service will be given to the closest available AAA contract garage. Services may be provided by independent businesses (not employees or agents of the club) under contract with the AAA Akron Auto Club to provide Emergency Road Service as described here. While the club is not responsible for the acts or omissions of these independent contractors, the club will assist members in resolving reports that may arise concerning possible damage.
These regulations are subject to change without notice.
SERVICES INCLUDED WITH YOUR AAA MEMBERSHIP
1. Mechanical First Aid: The driver will attempt minor adjustments to start the stalled vehicle. If it cannot be started, towing, as defined in item 3, will be provided.
2. Battery Boost: When it is safe to do so, an attempt will be made to start the vehicle with a booster battery or other available means. If it cannot be started, towing (as defined in item 3) will be provided.
3. Towing Service: When necessary, towing will be provided at no additional charge for service from the point of breakdown to the AAA garage answering the call. If you request towing to any other location, the club will provide service for the first three miles of towing from the point of breakdown. Beyond three miles, there is a charge for each mile or part thereof. The member shall pay these charges to the driver when the service is provided. Service includes one truck, one driver and one round trip per emergency. Any subsequent service in connection with the same emergency will be at the member’s expense. AAA Plus extends this benefit by providing up to 100 miles of towing in any direction from the point of breakdown.
4. Battery Replacement Service: In selected areas, when a AAA member calls for assistance or submits a request online and the problem is believed to be battery-related, a Battery Replacement Service equipped vehicle may be dispatched. A trained specialist will accurately test the battery and the vehicle charging system. A report showing the remaining life of the bat- tery will be supplied at the member’s request. If the battery needs to be replaced, the member can purchase one, and the specialist will install one on the spot. Battery Replacement Service vehicles carry batteries that will properly fit 90 percent of all cars, SUVs and light trucks on the road.
5. Tire Service: Your inflated spare tire will be installed on the vehicle. If needed, an air tank or towing service will be provided.
6. Fuel Delivery Service: When your vehicle is out of fuel, an emergency supply, when available, will be delivered. Member pays for the fuel. Specific brands cannot be provided. AAA Plus extends this benefit by providing two gallons of fuel at no additional charge to the member.
7. Extrication and Winching Service: When a vehicle is stuck, it will be extricated/winched when it can be safely reached from a normally traveled road or established thoroughfare with standard equipment. If special equipment, more than one truck or more than one person is required, services may be at the member’s expense. AAA Plus extends this benefit by providing two drivers, two trucks and up to one hour of service at the scene.
8. Unlocking Service: The driver will attempt to unlock the vehicle. If the
keys are lost, broken, locked in the trunk, or irretrievable, AAA will attempt
to secure locksmith assistance, and provide towing, if needed, and reimbursement up to $50 for commercial locksmith service, if necessary. AAA Plus extends this benefit by providing up to $100 of parts and labor coverage.
9. Emergency Check Acceptance: A member’s personal check will be accepted at participating AAA contract garages for up to $250 for certain emergency repairs and road service charges. Check with the club for details.
