TRAVEL
Cruising the Seine River
The Seine is France’s second-longest river, extending more than 480 miles from Burgundy through Paris and Normandy before joining the English Channel at Le Havre. A cruise along this waterway can deliver one of the world’s great travel experiences and offers something for every taste.
One of the most popular itineraries on the Seine travels between Paris and the Normandy region. Celebrating France’s most alluring urban and pastoral settings, this itinerary is known for its stunning coastline, incredible food, and artistic beauty. Blend in a passion for the good life with culture and architecture and you have Northern France.
Long a hub of French culture, cuisine and architectural splendor, Paris is one of the most romantic destinations in the world. In addition to seeing architectural marvels like the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral, the Seine River has 37 picturesque bridges in Paris alone! Bear in mind that Paris offers more than you can see in a single day, so choose a cruise that begins or ends in Paris and opt for a pre- or post-cruise stay to truly experience this magnificent city.
During your stops along the river, Monet’s garden at Giverny and the charming harbor town of Honfleur will inspire you the same way they inspired the great Impressionists. For inspiration of a different kind, travel the Routes des Abbayes, visiting some of the most magnificent monasteries, or relive the grandeur of royalty at Chateau de Bizy, once referred to as “the Versailles of Normandy.”
Normandy, of course, is a place of special significance and for many U.S. travelers a highlight of this itinerary. Here you’ll have an opportunity to experience history firsthand as you visit the beaches and pay homage to the heroes of the D-Day invasion.
Most major river cruise lines offer Seine River cruise experiences. One that does a particularly wonderful job is AmaWaterways. On AmaWaterways, you’ll enjoy an extensive lineup of included tours plus opportunities to visit renowned sites and chateaus of the region. In many cases, you will have
