TRAVEL
Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks
Yellowstone and Grand Teton are two of the most popular and scenic national parks in the USA. The two parks sit side by side and together they create an incredible vacation destination.
Primarily located in the northwest portion of Wyoming, Yellowstone is the second largest U.S. national park outside of Alaska. Covering more than 2 million acres, the park has five entrances and 251 miles of roads. The park is so big that there are several “villages” inside the park, each with lodging, campsites and food services.
Yellowstone is best known for Old Faithful geyser and thermal “paint pots.” Wildlife viewing is another popular activity within the park – watch for bison, moose, elk, wolves, and bears. Take in Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and visit both the Upper and Lower Falls where the Yellowstone River carved this 1,200-feet-deep and 4,000-feet-wide canyon. Scenic Hayden Valley is home for herds of buffalo and provides a prime location for viewing.
The park has a wide assortment of things to do. A few of the top-rated experiences within the park include:
Old Faithful • Wildlife viewing • Mammoth Hot Springs
Haden Valley • Lamar Valley • Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Located just south of Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park is the smaller of the two. While Yellowstone and Grand Teton are neighbors, they each deserve their own time to explore.
Grand Teton, which looks vastly different from Yellowstone, is named for the Teton Range, a jagged, rocky mountain range that runs through the heart to the park. Rising above a scene rich with extraordinary wildlife, pristine lakes and alpine terrain, the mountain range dominates the area’s skyline, and ultimately led to the creation of Grand Teton National Park. Believed to be the youngest of the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Tetons rise to 13,775 feet, making it the second-highest peak in Wyoming.
The park has over 200 miles of hiking trails, which make it a favorite park among outdoor enthusiasts and photographers. With headwaters north of the park, the Snake River winds its way
through the valley and across this amazing scene.
Like Yellowstone, Grand Teton offers a wide assortment of
activities. A few of the top-rated experiences within the park include:
Jenny Lake • Snake River float trip • Cascade Canyon • Inspiration Point & Hidden Falls • Wildlife viewing • Mormon Row Historic District • Hiking • Jackson Lake Lodge – National Historic Landmark
If you go, be sure to stop in downtown Jackson, an iconic Old West town, located just outside the park.
