WHY GET AN E-ZPASS?
YOUR TICKET TO ADVENTURE:
When you hop in your car for a fun summer
road trip, you want to get to your destination as quickly as possible. The New York State Thruway is a 570-mile superhighway that runs from New York City, north to Albany, west to Buffalo and Niagara Falls and then along the coast of Lake Erie to the Pennsylvania border. Wherever you’re heading, the Thruway and E-ZPass will help to get you there in a safe and timely manner, while saving you money.
FLEXIBLE PAYMENT OPTIONS:
Along with a 5 percent discount along the entire Thruway system, E-ZPass offers a variety of commuter and vehicle specific discount plans and payment options to fit the needs of every motorist. E-ZPass offers
commuter discounts which can save drivers hundreds of dollars each year. To learn how much you can save, visit thruway.ny.gov.
Customers can also sign up for the E-ZPass payment plan called “Pay Per Trip,” – It’s linked to a bank account, not a credit card, and pays tolls incurred once per day and a prepaid E-ZPass account balance is not required.
Customers can also replenish their account by credit card, bank account, check or money order.
CASHLESS TOLLING: As New York Governor
Andrew Cuomo announced in his 2018 State of the State address, cashless tolling will be implemented on the entire NYS Thruway system by the end of 2020. Cashless tolling is already operational at the Thruway’s fixed-price barriers in the lower Hudson Valley region and the Grand Island Bridges in Western New York.
The Thruway’s ticketed system, which is located between exits 15 (Woodbury) and exit 61 (Ripley – PA Line) as well as exits B1 – B3 (Berkshire Spur), accounts for nearly 60 percent of all Thruway traffic each year.
In 2018, more than 158 million vehicles traveled on
the ticketed system, accounting for more than 6.2
billion miles traveled. When this system goes live, motorists will have a convenient and safe way
to travel.
NO WAITING FOR A BILL TO ARRIVE IN THE MAIL: When cashless tolling is
operational on the Thruway’s ticketed system, motorists will drive under a gantry with state-of-the-art sensors
and cameras that read E-ZPass tags and take license plate images, so
vehicles no longer have to stop to pay the toll. Vehicles with E-ZPass tags are
automatically charged and vehicles without E-ZPass tags will have their license plate image
captured and a toll bill mailed to the registered owner of each vehicle. Customers who pay using
Tolls By Mail will pay the same toll rate as previously paid by cash customers, and E-ZPass customers with New York accounts will continue to receive a 5 percent discount.
For more than 25 years, drivers have been enjoying the benefits of E-ZPass, which include saving time and money while traveling the New York State Thruway. If you’re not already an E-ZPass customer, now is the time.
To sign up for a Thruway E-ZPass account visit thruway.ny.gov/getezpass.
