Happy NewYear! It’s hard to believe
another year has passed. I often find
January is a goodmonth to review
household budgets and prepare
for upcoming tax filings along with
reviewing household insurance coverage.
As you review your household
finances, it is important to look toward
retirement; however, it is also important to look at how your
household would manage if you or a spouse passed away.
Do you have enough life insurance that would provide your
loved ones with the lifestyle they currently have?
During the past several years I have witnessed friends and
coworkers deal with the passing of spouses and children,
and the concern that household finances become in
situations where there was inadequate life insurance. When
my wife and I had our son 10 years ago, a coworker advised
me to obtain life insurance for my son, for several reasons:
It would provide for funeral expenses if something would
happen, along with providing guaranteed life insurance
coverage for him for life.
I’m glad we purchased a life insurance policy for him
because when he was 3 years of age he was diagnosed with
a life-threatening disease, which he will have for the rest of
his life. This makes him ineligible to obtain life insurance now.
I’m really glad we obtained a life insurance policy for him at
birth. Often, people purchase gifts and even savings bonds
to celebrate births, but people should also be thinking about
life insurance. Waiting until you or a loved one becomes ill is
too late to obtain life insurance, so plan ahead.
If you are looking for ways to save money in 2014,
I recommend looking at how you canmaximize your AAA
membership, including using the coupons in
AAANow!
There
are several coupons in this issue, including a state inspection
and emission coupon for Firestone, and discounts on food
purchases at Shop Rite and Main St. Market. Also, be sure to
stop by the AAA Northampton County office to purchase
discounted gift cards for area restaurants and stores. They are
great gift ideas, as well a being valuable for personal use.
When was the last time you obtained an auto insurance
quote? If it has been a while, now is a good time to call AAA
for a free auto insurance quote. It could save you hundreds.
You can even save on Turbo Tax software. By showing your
AAA membership card, you can save at over 100 stores and
restaurants in Northampton County.
As we move into 2014, AAA Northampton County is here to
assist you in savingmoney today and planning for tomorrow.
I hope you and your family have a great 2014!
