JAMAICA
The Place to Find Fun and Adventure
This island paradise sets the stage for romance,
but it’s also a wonderful family getaway, with
exceptional resorts and plenty of activities to keep
everyone happy, including zip-lining, water sports
and horseback riding.
In Ocho Rios, climb Dunn’s River Falls. Ride down
the Rio Grande River in Port Antonio. The relaxing
six-mile journey on a bamboo raft takes you
through the lush bush areas of the island.
For a breathtaking panorama of Jamaica’s lush
forest, visit the Caves of Nunsuch and Athenry
Gardens in Port Antonio. Not too far away is the
Blue Lagoon, also known as the Blue Hole. This
deep sinkhole brings cold water from underground,
turns the water inky blue, and provides the perfect
aquatic platform for water-skiing, snorkeling, scuba
diving and glass bottom boat rides.
THE BRITISHVIRGIN ISLANDS
Beautiful and Unspoiled
If it’s seclusion you seek, look no further than
the British Virgin Islands, which have remained
relatively undeveloped. Though the island chain
comprises approximately 50 islands, islets and cays,
many are uninhabited.
There are no direct flights to the BVI from the
U.S. mainland, so many visitors get to the most
populated islands – Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Jost
Van Dyke – on their own sailing vessels or by way
of ferry. Ferries make regularly scheduled crossings
between St. Thomas and St. John to Tortola.
If you’re looking for shopping and nightlife,
you certainly won’t find much of it in the BVI.
But if you enjoy boating, diving, snorkeling and
beachcombing, these islands are tropical havens.
This is the place to find numerous bays for
snorkeling. Divers enjoy exploring undisturbed
reefs and the wreck of the Rhone, which sunk in the
waters off of Salt Island in 1876.
Virgin Gorda is a favorite spot for sailing. On the
southwestern coast, massive boulders and grottoes
form a popular swimming spot known as the Baths.
At Virgin Peak National Park, hikers can climb to
the platform of an observation tower and enjoy a
sweeping 360-degree view of this picturesque island.
