2013 Acura ILX
Fuel economy: 24 city/35 highway
Acura, Honda’s premium division, has been
struggling. Now, in an attempt to pump
some much-needed life into the brand
and capture the attention of successful
20- and 30-somethings who want to drive
a premium vehicle with high value, Acura
has introduced the all-new ILX entry-level
compact sedan. The ILX is built on the
Honda Civic platformwith much of the same
hardware, but the similarity ends there.
Outfitted in a stylish exterior with a premium
interior, the ILX comes well equipped and
drives comfortably. On the other hand, the
ILX is overpriced and is direct competition
for the Acura TSX. Premium fuel is also
recommended for all models.
2013 Volkswagen
Tiguan SE
Fuel economy: 21 city/27 highway
Sport utility vehicles typically offer more
utility than sport. Those shopping for a small
SUV are usually more concerned with the
number of cup holders in the cabin than
the number of horses under the hood. This
small SUV puts a bit more sport in sport
utility vehicle. The Tiguan, with its raked-back
windshield and large side window, is more
aggressively styled than others in this class.
There is more to sportiness than styling with
this vehicle. While the Tiguan doesn’t offer
as much cargo space as some others in this
class, you still get 23.8 cubic feet of space
behind the rear seats and more than 56 cubic
feet with the seats folded down.
