you don’t have a passport, visit your local post office
or passport agency immediately for application and
renewal services. For detailed information regarding

Renewing Passports
You can renew a passport by mail if the current
passport is undamaged and can be submitted with
your application. To renew your passport by mail,
it had to be issued when you were age 16 or older,
within the last 15 years in your current name, or you
must legally document your name change.
First-time ApplicantsWill Require
• One 2x2-inch passport photo (passport photos are
available at AAA Northampton County for $7.99 plus
tax to members, $12 plus tax to non-members)
• Completed passport application
• Certified U.S. birth certificate
• Proof of identity (such as a driver’s license or
government-issued ID)
• Check for $110, plus check, cash, or credit card payment
of $25 for citizens ages 16 and older, or $105 for ages 15
and younger (additional taxes may apply)
Expedited Service
For an additional $60, plus two-way overnight
delivery charges, applicants can obtain a passport
in approximately two weeks. For emergency service,
applicants must apply in person at a passport agency
and show proof of imminent travel (airline tickets).
Keeping Documentation Safe
Keeping track of your documentation does not end
once you have your passport in hand. Prior to leaving
home, make three copies of the identification page of
your passport. Leave one copy with your emergency
contact person in the United States. A second copy
should remain with you at all times for identification
purposes, as your original passport should be locked
away safely in your hotel room. The third copy of your
passport should be kept in your hotel room separate
from your original passport.
Visas
In addition to your passport, the country you intend
on visiting could require tourists to obtain a visa prior
to entry. Contact the local consulate for the country
you will visit to inquire about visa requirements. Don’t
wait until the last minute to apply; getting a visa can
take six weeks or more to process.
